A Farewell to Syntax & Salt Magazine: January 2020

Dear Readers,

After much deliberation, I have decided that the January 2020 issue of Syntax & Salt Magazine will be its last. I am so very grateful to everyone who has been a part of this labor of love: our first line readers, our editors and special editors, our Patreon supporters, social media followers, and especially our authors. I also want to give a very special thank you to Chelsea Cohen, our managing editor, who has kept us moving, organized, and worked with me on every single story that we’ve been privileged to put out into the world. I hope everyone who has been a part of S&S over the last few years feels proud of what we’ve accomplished.

The reasons for this decision are pretty mundane; my career and the needs of my family have changed over time, and I can no longer commit the time and effort that Syntax & Salt deserves. I also believe that sometimes there is a natural end to things, no matter how loved they are, and while I had initially hoped to see us move into the semi-pro or pro market space, the effort required to make that happen would be another full time job, and I am choosing instead to say farewell, but hopefully with a bang.

We will continue taking submissions through December 1, 2019. Writers may submit up to three stories (individual submissions) between now and then. Simultaneous submissions are permitted. We want to pack this issue with every amazing story that comes to us, so please, flood us with your work! Submit here!

On January 1, 2020, our final issue will drop at Midnight ET. After that we will deactivate our Submittable and Patreon accounts. I will maintain the site for as long as I live (or am reasonably able to do so), and will continue working on getting our older issues into eBook format. Going forward, any inquiries should be directed to syntaxandsalt@gmail.com. Thank you again for being a part of this journey. It’s been beautiful.

Signing Off,

Ani King, EiC
